LOT DETAILS: 坂本善三　ZENZO SAKAMOTO
Zenzo Sakamoto, born in 1911 in Kumamoto Prefecture, moved to Tokyo and pursued a path as an oil painter at art school (Musashino Art University). However, he lost many of his works due to World War II and floods in his hometown of Kumamoto. Perhaps influenced by these experiences, he seemed to deepen his introspection through experiences like traveling to Europe and doing the Shikoku pilgrimage, eventually establishing his own unique compositional style that often used monochrome. Around the mid-1970s, he started creating prints, and lots like LOT213–215 are some of his representative works from his later years. He passed away in 1987.
