Bidding, How to buy

Is auction house and viewing open to everyone?

The Viewing and auction is open to everyone, if you wish to bid in the auction, you will need to register in face-to-face transactions.

How can I bid by telephone?

Please send us the bid form with the indication of "Telephone Bidding" instead of filling in maximum bidding price by FAX or email.
As the telephone lines for English speaking bidders are very limited, there are possibility of suggesting the Absentee bids rather than telephone bids.

Do I have to be a member to participate in the sale?

Everyone can participate the sale in the saleroom or by absentee bidding. If you would like to bid from our website, you need to register as a member.

Can I participate in the auction even if I cannot go to the sale room?

If you are a member, you can bid from our website.
If you are not a member, you can still bid by sending us absentee bid form.

Can I enter or exit the auction room anytime during the sale?

You can enter or exit the auction room anytime during the sale.

Can I buy the unsold items after the auction?

We will have 1 week of aftersale period after the sale date. You can purchase the lots in the aftersale list, but not all unsold lots will be on the list.

How to sell, Valuation service

How can I consign my property?

Please send us images and details of the works by email.

Can I bring my properties directly to Tokyo/Osaka office to ask for the authenticity?

We do not suggest the authenticity of the works. We will keep the work to request the examination to the connoisseur. The examination fee will be on consignor's responsibility.

When is the deadline for consignment for each auction?

The deadline of consignment is about 2 months before the sale date. Please contact us for details.

Would you visit us and pick up my properties for consigning, as there are many works and it is difficult to send all by parcels?

Please contact us by email or telephone call.

Are registration fee and seller's commission required upon consignment?

No registration fee for your registered category is required if you are subscribed to our membership. Otherwise, we ask for registration fee, calculated based on the number of consigned items.
The seller's commission is only charged when the item is sold.

In case my lot is unsold, do I still have to pay the seller's commission?

No, we only ask for the seller's commission when the item is sold.

How can I know if my request of valuation service is received when sent from the homepage?

If your request is received, you will receive an email from us.

Do I need to submit the photographs of the items for evaluation?

We could reserch without images, but we could provide high quality valuation with images.

Is evaluation for free?

Evaluation based on consigning is free of charge.

How can I know the result of the sale?

Auction result is availble at our website after each auction. If you would like to find details of the works, we suggest you to register membership.

How can I know the past auction result?

Auction results for past six sales for each genres are available at our website. If you would like to find the previous sale results, please contact us by email or telephone call.

What will be the guarantee if the lot was a counterfeit?

If the work is founded as counterfeit, we will refund the fee for the item, authenticity certificate and the other related expenses.
However this condition shall not be applied for some items, please find details for MA Conditions of Consignment and Sale.

What will NOT be guaranteed if the lot is was a counterfeit?

①Lots with an estimation of “No estimate” or “Nariyuki”.
②Lots of artists, whose authoritative authentication specialists or institutions, commonly regarded as reliable by major fine art institutions do not exist.
③Lots of reproduction prints which are not listed on the catalogue raisonné.
④Items that are accompanied to the titled item as a set without images on the catalogue.
⑤Lots of ceramics, porcelain, glass works, industrial art objects, medals and jewelry.
⑥Evidence issued by an organization or an institution that MA considers
inappropriate as an authentication foundation.
We shall not deem an opinion of other specialist as a crucial proof to reconsider our opinion. Please see MA Conditions of Consignment to find details to make a counterfeit claim.

How can I find the total amount of payments for successful lots?

The Buyer's premium will be added to the Hammer price at a rate of 16.5% of each Lot.

Can I cancel my bid after the auction?

No cancellation is accepted after the sale.

Would you let me know the result after the sale?

We do not have the service of informing the sale result. We will send the invoice for the successful bidders. If you are a member, you may find your bidding list from MY PAGE.

How can I pick up the purchased lot after the sale?

You may choose to pick up or ship your item to the address in your account. Please let us know how you would like to receive your item before bidding.

Is it possible to get the lot lower than my bidding price?

If there is no other bidder, you may have the item below the price you set for absentee bid.

What if I find a crack, scratch or flaw on an oil painting, that was not indicated on the catalogue description?

Please check the condition for the item, no cancellation after the sale is accepted with any reasons including the condition of the work and frame.

Catalogues

Would you send me a catalogue?

If you are a member, a catalogue subscription entitles you to receive every catalogue in a given category. For the non-members who wish to receive catalogues, please contact us from the website. Due to the limitation of the number of catalogues, we will send them in the order of first-time customer and of arrival.

When will the catalogue be published?

Catalogues will be issued 2 weeks before the sale date.

How can I know the condition of the lot other than the description on the catalogues?

Viewing is available from few days before the sale day. Please visit the viewing and ask any questions to our staff. If you are unable to join the viewing, please contact us from the website or by email for the condition reports.

How can I have the past auction catalogue?

Past catalogues are 3,300JPY. Please contact us by email or telephone call.

How can I see the images of all the items in a lot?

Please visit our Viewing before the auction. All items including set items are prepared to be viewed. If you are unable to join the viewing, please contact us from the website or by email for the condition reports.

We cannot show the image of the item larger than shown on the website.

When will the information of next auction be updated?

Lists are updated 2 weeks before the sale date.

How can I see the images of the past auction lot?

Past lots images are available for the online members.

How can I see the images of all the items in a lot?

Please visit our viewing before the auction. All items including set items are prepared to be viewed. If you are unable to join the viewing, please contact us from the website or by email for the condition reports.

Is there anything I have to be careful when bidding from website?

Please examine the condition of the item. After the lot is sold, no cancellation is accepted with any reasons including the condition of the work and frame. All sales are final and subject to the Conditions of Sale printed in each catalogue. All property is offered in "as is" condition, and prices are not reduced due to pre-existing flaws. Also, please check the deadline for bidding as we do not accept the cancellation or changes of your bidding after the deadline.

Can I bid from website?

Yes, you may bid from our website if you are a member. If you wish to be a member, please register from our website.

At what price will the sale start?

It probably starts with the price slightly lower than the lower estimate.

At what price will the auction start for Nariyuki lot?

It probably starts from less than 50,000JPY. We set as No Estimate for the lot that we cannot suggest any concrete estimate because of lack of recent trade data.

How fast will the sale proceed?

Auction will be conducted 150 lots per hour.

Frequently Asked Questions regarding Live Bid

Will there be live broadcasting of the auction?

No, only bidding prices and information of the Lot (artist, title, and the estimate) will be displayed.

Will the ID and the password change per participation?

No, your ID and password may be used again in the forthcoming sales.

Can we access MA Live Bid with Apple devices?

Yes.

Is Live Bid accessible from iOS/Android devices?

It is accessible, however, the livestream speed may differ depending on your network environment. We recommend ethernet for secure connection.

Is the registration fee required?

No, the registration is free of charge.

What is your buyer's premium for Live Bidders?

16.5% to the hammer price.

Others

Are the items all genuine?

All items are assumed genuine. However, if the work is proved to be counterfeit after the acquisition, we will refund the fee of the item, the costs of authenticity certificate and the other related expenses.
This condition shall not apply to all items. Please see MA Conditions of Consignment and Sale to find details.

Can we see all works listed on the catalogue in the Viewing?

All works are available in the viewing.
