- Free auction estimate and listing on catalogue
- The procedures for selling at MA are very simple.
Just send the information of your property as precisely as possible with photos. There is no designated form but you can use “MA AUCTION ESTIMATE QUSTIONNAIRE FORM” of this site and attaching digital image is very much helpful for us. Our specialists will examine your property through the information and photos and estimate your property based on recent prices realized for similar objects, the current state of Japanese market, rarity and conditions. Then, we will give you a free verbal auction estimate by telephone or E-mail. If your reserve price is negotiable with our estimate price, we proceed to consignment process. Please be advised that we need at least 70 days or more to finish necessary works to sell your property at designated auction properly.
- Consignment
- After mutual verbal agreement regarding the estimate price range and consignment, you are required to be registered as a member of MA. (Please refer to Catalogue Subscription and Registration). After registration you can send (or bring) your property to the following address. Please note that the arrangement and the fee for transportation and insurance are your own responsibility.

- Examination and Catalogue Description
- Upon receiving the piece, we start to examine the piece and prepare for catalogue listing. Approximately 70 days before the sale date, “AGREEMENT OF CONSIGNMENT AND CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION” form will be sent to you. You must check the document carefully and notify us of any correction of the description or condition by sending back the form before designated date. We deem this confirmation procedure by you as the final agreement of consignment and no withdrawal of your piece will be allowed after the date of your confirmation. Your piece will be our custody until the collection by the buyer.
- Authentication Fee
- Authenticity certificate, letter or opinion must be obtained from designated authentication institute for the works by masters. In that case we will obtain such document on behalf of you without any charges. However, it is your responsibility to bear authentication fee payable to the designated institution. It varies from institution to institution and approximate amount of fee around 50,000 yen.
- Consignment Registration Fee
- It is free for subscription member regardless of the number of consigned pieces. If you are not a member your registration fee is:
5,000 yen for within 10 pieces
10,000 yen for 11 to 20 pieces
20,000 yen for above 21 pieces
- Sold!
- After the successful selling at MA, you will receive a post-sale document from us and the remittance of “Selling Price” will be made 20 business days after the date of auction. We charge each Lot with fixed amount of \10,000 when the hammer price is less than \70,000 and 15% of hammer price of each Lot fetched \70,000 or more and less than \500,000. And 10% Seller's commission is applicable to each Lot fetched \500,000 or more.
- Unsold....
- Although we are proud to announce that MA’s successful bidding ratio is always well above 90% of all consigned objects, we have to expect very small number of unsold objects. If your property is not sold unfortunately we will continue trying to sell your property as “AFTER SALE” for one week after the auction based upon agreed reserve price. When such after sale finally become unsuccessful we offer you free storage of 20 days after the auction. You must collect your property before the expiration of this service. Transportation and insurance fees are your responsibility. We are very happy to discuss the reasons of failure and reconsider price zone with you and look for another alternatives to sell your property at our auction.
- Insurance
- We will automatically insure your property based upon negotiated estimate price from the arrival of the pieces. Please note, however, our insurance principle is entirely based upon our good will as an agent of a contract for sale. You are strongly recommended to insure your property by your own insurance policy based upon any amount of insured value for which your property should be covered.
